Trying to narrow it down. First it wouldn't start without a jump. The battery is charged though and holds the charge. Got it tested out. Then we try it a week later and it just roars to life like nothing is wrong. However a lot of the lights on the dash stay lit up (airbag, ABS) When the truck wouldn't start it'd crank but not kick over. Fuel pump is new, gas is in the tank and you can hear the pump start up. Just replaced the spark plugs with platinum plugs and even put in new spark plug wires about 1000 miles ago. Alternator is good.
Truck is a 96 F-150 w/ a 351, optional fuel tank. XLT trim line. 170k miles on it.
Going to start ripping into the green machine soon, any ideas on where to start looking when we get into the beasts guts? Last time we had an issue it was with a module in the steering column, can't remember the name of the part. Caused the horn to constantly blare and when it was disabled by a previous owner it also disabled the airbag. That drained the battery and didn't cause the current issues. Anyone out there have similar issues? Rather not take it to a shop.
Started the green machine up today and took it for a short drive around the area. It starts right up still but every light on the dash stays on. Even the e-brake stays lit up when it's off. Everything. Thoughts on what might cause the dash to light up like that and cause intermittent start-up issues?
Radio is iffy as well. The actual sound hasn't worked in a while (at least for the radio, tape deck still works when I use an MP3 converter to play music from my phone) but the now the clock goes in and out like power isn't going to it. Haven't tried tape deck in a while, I've been avoiding driving it in case I get stranded, rather not pay for a tow.
