what's this bracket for?
I have a '13 F250 and decided to remove the cowling underneath the front bumper to cut it shorter and these brackets were behind it. They are mounted to each frame rail and I'm guessing they are there to help the frame fold down from a hit or to keep a small car from going underneath the truck, but I just want to make sure they are not needed.

I had the same brackets on my truck. I removed them when I installed my Brushguard. I couldn't see any reason to leave them there and they were in the way of the mounting brackets I had. Like you I figured they were some kind of a catch to keep large objects from going under the bumper and hitting any of the steering linkage. They seem to hang down just enough to protect the steering.
