using 4Lo without hubs locked

Guys,
Is it alright to use 4 LO without having your hubs locked? I don't want to use 4X4 on a concrete boat ramp but will 4 LO help pull the boat up the ramp or will it cause damage because the front hubs are not locked?

Thanks,
Steve

I have an 16' enclosed tandem axle trailer thats loaded up with tools and atv's, and I do the same think when backing up our driveway. It makes it real nice just to beable to crawl along with hardly any throttle.

The only situations are driving at high speeds and high torque situations that are to be avoided....In low range with only the rear wheels grabbing there could be lots of force on the drive train that wasn't designed to be there.....axles etc.....In most cases no problem..

Your truck does have a shifter on the floor as opposed to the dash right?

ohyeah like rrmike said it wont work if you have the switch on the dash, because then your hubs lock automatically.

Even if you have a dash shifter, straight up the boat ramp will work without front tire wear... However, I know we all would like to do the "turn on concrete in 4 LO" manuver.

Talking using 4Lo without hubs locked

Thanks for the info, all. I must've looked funny locking the hubs each time getting up the ramps at Havasu. Can't wait to get back to good ole USA
From Babylon, Iraq.....

I all way use 4x4 when launching my boat. I launch in the Pacific Ocean and at low tide the bottom of the ramp can be very slimey. I have seen 2wd trucks/suv's slip into the water and sink! Thats not a fun day for the truck owner. It's pretty fun to watch though. Don't be that sad, mad, wet truck owner, use full 4x4 everytime you launch!
