I got a problem with the old truck. Its a 81 f150 and its carbed Well anyways i was gonna leave a buddies and well i tried to turn it over and it clicked.. I rolled started it and came home. I replaced the starter and starter switch... I jumped the voltage reg Nothing I jump from the starter wire to the bat I just had fire coming off the ground on the block. Now could it be a bad ground.. ANy help is welcome or any ideas.
Which "starter switch" did you replace? The ignition switch under the dash, or the starter relay on the inner fender near the battery? And why jump the voltage regulator? You'd either fry it or the alternator. If the ground wire is throwing sparks, it's probably loose. Remove it, clean it, and reattach it tightly. It should go to one of the starter mounting bolts, with a terminal in the middle on the frame behind the R shock/coil tower.
There are several recent threads about this - search this & the electrical forum.
The one buy the inner fenderwall. I was tryin to see if it was having enough voltage to the starter. And when i jumped the damned soleniod to hit the starter...Well the fire was coming off the block where the battery hooks up too it
Took it off showed it to dad... Found the wire that goes to the cab off. Dad thinks someone tampered with my truck. O well its runnin better then ever snice everything is well grounded
