I have a 2002 F250, 4x4, 7.3PSD with about 307K miles. I have been working my way across the engine having read countless posts and suggestions from all you 7.3 gurus... Thank you, the engine is running strong! My transmission, however is tired but holding up well enough for now but I know someday soon I will very likely need a rebuild. So an opportunity has come up to purchase an “as removed from” transmission from a ’99 F250 4x4, 7.3…
My question is should I consider buying this and using it as a core for rebuild? Are there any differences I should be concerned about? Or should I save my money and spend it later on my rebuild? What is a fair core value for a transmission?
i dont know about if they are exactely the same "i would think they would be but.." or core value. something you could look into though, maybe some one like brian at bts might be willing to rebuild one for you and give you a credit on the other if you gave it to him. you could recoop the money you paid for it , have no down time between the swap, and maybe save a few bucks. some thing to consider.
I picked up a "core" from a local guy for $100. He tore it apart to rebuild it but never had time and ended up just buying a salvage unit to get by. Everything is there is several boxes. He told me it was a '00 or '01 trans, but the build tag is actually a '02. My plan is make a HD version out of it...
