New Studebaker?
One of my buddies swears he saw a NEW Studebaker Pickup the other day in a parking lot. Has Studebaker started making automobiles again? Does anyone have any info on this matter?
Thanks
(2003 Studebaker)
STUDEBAKER
Yes, Studebaker--a good old name coming back to U.S. market in 2003 The Studebaker name is about to be resurrected in the United States on a sport-utility vehicle. Michael Kelly, chairman and CEO of Avanti Motor Corporation and owner of the Studebaker name, says the newest Studebaker, built on an all-new platform, will make its debut in April 2003.
Its debut will likely take place at the New York Auto Show. The date is also the fortieth anniversary of Avanti, the last new passenger car introduced by Studebaker before the legendary U.S. automaker went out of business in the mid-Sixties. Studebaker started as a Conestoga wagon maker in the mid-1850s.
Besides the Studie SUV, Kelly is also busy creating a network of about a dozen Avanti dealers around the United States. He began building a redesigned, 320-horsepower Avanti again in 2000 in Villa Rica, Georgia and plans to build 150 Avanti coupes and convertibles per year, including a supercharged GT version. The prices range from $79,000 to $93,000.
Although I have all of that info, I have no pictures of it. So carry a camera wherever you live. Because it sounds like he got a first glimpse of something nobody has seen yet. It may have been on a cross-country trial run before mass production. Who knows. GM cars used to roll through the town I grew up in my teens. I'd see some pretty neat things before they hit the market.
Graffe.
I live in East Texas, where the truck was seen. He said it strongly resembled the '02 Dodge Ram.
Thanks again!
