Ok, does anyone get Truckin' magazine? This months issue (August 03'), on page 220 it features a 2003 Expy built by Street Scene featured at the 02' SEMA show. A feature on this Expy is a product called Ride-Rite made by Firestone. If you look on page 224, there is a picture of the Firestone control unit that features 4 switches, and 2 pressure guages. Now the article says that the driver can control the ride height of THE FACTORY LINCOLN NAVIGATOR AIRBAG setup! I have tried to reach Street Scen and figure out how this is done, but have been unsuccessful. I will try again tomorrow. Does anyone live close to Costa Mesa, Ca? Maybe someone else might have luck.
OK, after 5 days I got a message from Mike Spagona. I think that was his name. Anyway he is the one that was involved in the project. I called him back yesterday, and he was happy to answer all of my questions. What they did was take a stock Expedition and added the air bags from a Navigator, (so they were sure to have a perfect fit). Then instead of adding the rest of the Ford or Navigator components they added the Firestone Ride Rite components, (compressor, switches, and control panels). So, the Expy never had the LLs in it.
HOWEVER....He did tell me this could be done on an Expy that had the LLS! He said that by adding a switch on the dash, (or close proximity to the driver), that can turn on and off the LLS, you can control when the LLS is on or off. There is already a switch that does this near the passenger kick panel. Then he said just install a second system that you can control by tapping into all four air bag lines already there. When you switch the LLS off, You now have control over the airbags with your second unit.
He made it sound pretty simple, but said that he has never done it, nor does he know anyone that has before. It has been talked about, but never accomplished.
It's much easier to explain how he said to do it then try to type it out, so I hope you understand.
