It takes me forever to pump gas into my truck because it leaks all over the side when pumping at full speed. This is what it has done:
Does anyone else have this problem?! If so, how do you fix it?
I have thought about finding a new filler tube with one of these, or making my own. Any ideas? I want to continue to use my locking gas caps... Thanks!
Mine does the same thing. Id like to know the answer to this as well
Im working on a major in mechanical engineering and next year at school ill have access to some machinery so i might try to design an adapter to put on at the pump to help hold the fill nozzel so it stay in #1, then doesnt spray gas everywhere #2
If you figure something out, please share! I want to fix the paint befor it rusts any more, but I don't want it to happen again! I think I am goings to try an make something!
Its especially bad with the new sleeves they put on to suck on the vapors... I haven't found a happy spot on mine either; there seems to be a different 'best' position for each pump. Half open on the nozzle is the best I can ever get. Some pumps don't even let me do this before tripping off.
The best fix I have considered is cutting the filler door from a donor with all the other parts and basically update it to a modern fuel port. This approach isn't gonna help the guys trying to preserve their trucks but it might work for some of us.
Could be. Call me lazy but I like to put the nozzle in, set it and forget it... This crap makes me forcefully press the nozzle into the hole during the entire fueling process and with this truck, this happens a lot. It would be nice to improve upon this experience.
After 40 yrs do y'all think the filler hose is collapsed? You're pumping in more then can go though the hose.
Mine is all brand new to go with my custom aluminum 40 gal rear tank on my highboy. I hate the look of a filler door so im stuck creating a adapter or sucking it up and dealing with spilled gas.lol

I have a new filler hose on my front tank and it still does it, thankfully the paint hasn't been ruined there!
I have the bed off of of my '80, I may try to see if I can make that filler tube fit. i think i may just take it all apart, and weld one of those flap things(tging in second picture)
It gets irritating, an my bed is starting to rust because of it! I want if fixed!
Guys this is easy. Do what I'm doing. Go back to high school, get a job that doesn't pay much and quits in the winter (working for your dad) and then you never have to worry about it because you can't afford to put gas in your truck anyway!
I fill mine while holding the nozzle upside down. It's a pain in azz.
I had the same problem with my first truck, a 72 F250. I had to do the same thing, hold the nozzle upside down as I filled it and if it burped up fuel I cleaned it off right away so it didn't damage the paint.
The older trucks where not designed for the vapor recovery system so sometimes careful hose or nozzle wrangling was required.
Well, I am still in high school. I have a job that pays pretty well (for my age). But I have a girlfriend. That should just about a it up!
Haha, but it costs me about $100 a week to drive my truck. I am at the gas station twice a week, so my paint has a lot of tome to get ruined!
Welcome to the club Between girlfriend, fishing stuff, fixing the truck, getting unneccessary accessories for the truck, and hitting the gas station once a week (40 gal tank have to fill with about 25 gal per week) im like broke haha. Luckly i got another job and it will pay about $10-11 a hour plus any raises and random bonuses my boss just throws out at random so it shoud help with all my expenses...... I hope

Thats an interesting idea. Im going to try the upside down trick to see if that works for me. If not ill try the block idea
