So I stopped in to the auto shop down the street and met the owner/mechanic. As I pulled in, looking at my '78 F150, gave me the nod of approval. Good sign. Went in a talked to him. Turns out he loves working on older things. Still going good. Really didn't have anything just a meet and greet type a deal.
We went out opened the hood he looked at the 3G upgrade, more approval. I have and oil leak some where in the fwd area of my engine, inline 6 300. And coming out the PVC back into the air cleaner. He gave the advice to check my vacuum lines are in the correct order, blah blah blah.
Somewhere in our conversation, I said I'm not a mechanic, but I am a welder so I have a little aptitude, not much. Well he asked if I tig weld, well of course I do, I can even weld plastic. Haha.
Long story short he is going to put me to work as needed. He builds custom motorcycles. Okay even better. And help me do things I need to do to my truck. And help me get a block with his discount with parts. Okay too good now.
Sometimes it just takes going in and talking to people.
Sorry for rambling, but the woman is done with me and my truck talk.
Sounds good, between that, a tiny tax return and getting back an old rental deposit I might be able to scrape together enough for a new motor, my rod knock just keeps getting louder.
I get people stopping in all the time. Sometimes they're cool. Sometimes they're a pain. Glad you got some leverage on new parts.
I blew up my 300 six about 8 months ago when the fuel pump went out a dumped a bunch of gasoline in the engine. Two quarts of Lucas and four quarts of 20W50 have kept it going with minimal rattling. I even tow with it still. Those 300's are hard to kill.
If my truck had a 300 I wouldn't be too worried about it grenading going down the road, I have a 351m without oil pressure so it's gonna go pretty quick.
My oil issue is reverse flowing, kinda. At least it's coming in to the air filter housing thru the filler cap line.
I have heard that earthquake, bullit proof. Not sure but I also heard that about the c4. I'm contemplating rebuilding that eventually.
I read somewhere the c6 is heavier and robs a 300 of 40% of horse power ( stock). But is great for bb motors. Not sure, butt I think it was on fte some where.
