Shame on you! First of all, what on earth makes you think the Stealership is going to know anything about these old girls anymore? Unless some old salty dog is still trying to get in his 50 yrs for retirement with a watch and a thank you, You won't find a steelership mechanic that can even spell IDI let alone work on one! Coolant is not that hard to figure out. Either you run an ELC and forget about it for the next two to three years, or you go with an ethyl glycol coolant that is either pre-charged or you add SCA's. With either of the last two, you will need to monitor the SCA's with test strips. I run Fleet Charge pre-charged in both my trucks and monitor SCA's. It is available at O-reileys among other places.
you can let someone do a flush.hope they find an old book and a tech who knows what kind of diesel engine he's looking at,but eventually you'll have to learn too or you won't be able to properly maintain your coolant.
skip the opinions and stick to the facts.here they are.if someone varies from this it was most certainly due to a lack of research ok (minus evans waterless.)
low silicate. (like sold at napa.ask for it.they will help you.)
liquid sca's. (also sold at napa.ask them for napacool.)
OR
a coolant like fleetcharge,which is low silicate with proper levels of sca's already in it,that you just maintain.
either way you pick there^ same results.then you need to test and maintain it.
distilled water.
50/50 mix.
motorcraft rt1049 t-stat
13 lb cap.
along with that list pick one of these;
flush every 30,000 miles or 24 months.whichever comes first.
test sca levels every other oil change via test strips.add liquid sca's or a charged filter to bring levels up where they need to be again.filter head and filters sold at napa.
OR
run a penray need release coolant filter and let that do the work for you.change that out every 150,000 or 15 months.whichever comes first.
