Last time I changed engines I took the front clip off to clean up the frame in the front so I had no problems puting the engine/tranny in as a unit.
now the engine isn't acting right and I am shipping it back to the company to fix under warenty.
how hard is it to pull and replace (when I get it back) an engine with just the hood and radiator removed?
I have a high stall converter in the c4 that has bolt holes instead of studs so I don't see a problem with the remove/install if I unbolt the T/C from the flexplate before I start.
Chain the front suspension in place while the engine is still sitting in it's normal position. This will keep the body lower and you won't have to raise the engine so far to get it out like you would if you allow the body to rise as the engine is lifted out. You could go a step further and remove the front wheels and lower the front down onto jack stands, but this will not allow as much room for crawling around underneath the truck.
If you use the first way it will help if you get a few of your friends to sit on the front bumper and weight it down even lower while you chain the suspension down. If you have any beer drinking buddies they will like to do this one if you buy the beer.
Good idea about chaining the suspension. So I just wrap a chain around the spring tower and I beam and use a bolt or such to secure the chain to itself?
