Gerry. When you renew your drivers license you can also get an enhanced edition for crossing the border and then you only need a passport for air travel......Just a thought for you.

I heard about it and checked it online about 8 months ago. I renew in November so I'm going for it then. I cross quite a bit to go to my mailbox and traveling South. So it's a plus for me. Works somewhat like the fast card the truckers have. You can also apply for a Nexus card for those who cross frequently.

My son has a fast card but if I jump in with him we always get held up because I don't and we have the same name. Made the mistake one time of making a joke about it when the border officer asked if we were father and son. Without thinking I said yes but I'm the younger one. Didn't go over very well. Out of the truck we had to get and then the third degree. Thought it was bend over touch the floor and cavity search. Not the place to use your sense of humor. Thought they were going to send the rig back. We were going in at Ganonoque and I said listen the kids got a job to do so please let him be on his way and I'll catch a bus back home. Then they lightened up a little and told me to leave the humor at home from now on. Yes sir I said and we were on our way. Funny thing is I said the same thing to a gal at a trucking yard and she made me get out of the truck and wait outside the yard while he went in and dropped the trailer. F..... she was real crusty and we were in a real seedy part of Louisianna with no one around. Long story short, I keep my trap shut now LOL........
