Starter Problems

Truck was running fine. Got in next morning and when I turned the key all I got was a clicking sound. Tried jumping the truck and still had a clicking sound. The starter solenoid on the inside passenger fender looked old and cracked. Purchased new starter solenoid. Also had starter tested and checked good but since I had starter off the truck purchased a new starter. Installed new starter and solenoids but had the same problem. Took battery out and had tested. Battery tested bad. Purchased new battery and installed. Same problem, truck just makes clicking sound when turning the key. Battery Terminals and cables look good as well as ground. Cleaned all connections anyway. Still have same problem. Frustrated. Any ideas?

Can you short the 2 fender mounted relay terminals with large screwdriver and start the truck? Be sure it's in park or neutral when you try.

Jumped power side to S on solenoid and I can hear the plunger click. Jumped power side to starter side and nothing happens.

I assume you are talking about the fender mounted solenoid. I would jump the connections on the solenoid mounted on top of the starter. Be careful doing this, if you have a remote starter switch that would be the safe way to do this.

If you haven't done this already, there is a TSB on it.

Replace the spade terminal with a ring terminal on the small wire going to the starter, and use solder and heat shrink.
