Three salesman stop at a hotel for the night. They ask for three rooms. The clerk informs them that there is only one room vacant. So the three salesmen decide to share a room. The clerk tells them that the room costs $30. So the salesmen each chip in $10. After the salesmen go to there room the clerk realizes that he made a mistake, the room only costs $25. So the clerk calls the bellhop over and tells him to return the $5 dollars owed to the salesmen. On his way to the room the bellhop decides that 5 does not go evenly into 3, so he keeps two for himself and gives one dollar back to each of the three salesmen. Now each of the salesmen gets a dollar back, so $10 minus $1 equals $9. nine dollars times 3 salesmen equals $27 plus the two dollars that the bellhop kept equals $29. Where is the other dollar?
The Bellhops $2 gets subtracted to make $25 not added to attempt to make $30.
Once the clerk tries to return the $5, the total is no longer $30, it's $25. You subtract the individual $1's from the original total to reach $27 (which agrees with the 9x3=27 from the problem) and continue to take off the Bellhop's $2 --- $27-$2=$25
I hope I explained that right. I know what I want to say, but I'm having a hard time getting it out.
Try this one, You are traveling along a road, your journey's purpose is to reach the city truth, where everyone from that city tells the truth 100% of the time. The problem arises from the fact that close to the city of truth is the city of liars, where everyone from that city lies 100% of the time. You come to a fork in the road, and you are not sure which way leads you to the city of truth. You only have time to follow one road before it gets dark. Now sitting in between the two roads is an old man. He will answer one question and one question only, in order to help you on your way. The problem is that you don't know if he is a truth teller or a liar. What question do you ask him in order to be shown the correct road?
If the person is from Truth they will give me the correct path. If the person is from Liar they will also give the path to Truth because they must lie and not gie me the right direction to their home.
Hthighway you got it!
with your answer either way he he points the same direction, to the city of truth.
How about this riddle?
How long is a China man?
He-he.
You posed "How long is a China man?" as a question, rather than as a statement. This leaves it open for everyone to tool around with their tape measures. The only China man I know is 5'9" long.
How much lead could a rockchuck dodge if a rockchuck could dodge lead?
He couldn't dodge very much because he would keep coming out of his hole to see who was left.
Bad joke I know but the furry things are everywhere and it's that time of the year.
I've got one, sort of. More like something I just don't understand. There was a Dilbert comic a while back, where one of the women is complaining that women make $.25 less per dollar than men do (If a man is making $1.00, then a woman would make $.75) and she states that women get paid 25% less than men do. One of the guys points out that it's actually 33% and gets punched. Anyhow, if we're talking "100 cents", then wouldn't 75 be 75% of 100, or 25% less than 100? Where do they get 33%?
Go easy on me - all these riddles might make my brain achieve critical mass and explode!
