Gettin Hot!

Does anyone know what radiator I can use in my 66 f 100? I yanked out the 6cyl and dropped in a 302 from a 78 f100. I also mounted the 78 rad in it but it just looks wrong and I have no shroud, and the fan would hit the upper hose. I would like to make sure the fan on the engine fits in the shroud before I buy one. Also put in an electric fan until i can find a correct one. not sure the best placement for it either. on the grill side? the motor side? which way should it blow? air on motor? air out of grill? Help.................

This has been discussed on previous threads have you done a search here. I remember someone posting they used their stock radiator the only issue would be the inlet and out let are different which I am sure you are aware of. I opted to replace with a larger radiator and still in the process of doing modifications for the installation.

topfuel, My 66 has never had a shroud in it since birth. These trucks have a large air flow design and as long as they are moving forward they usually won't overheat. They will not sit & idle for an extended period and the temp not rise. On the hottest days in stop & go traffic, I will put my truck in neutral and raise the idle speed and it's OK. I may keep it in a lower gear to raise the rpms for a faster fan turn.

I agree get it right, but don't think you need to be overly concerned.

topfuel, were you having heating problems with the 6cy rad. ? Swapped the 6 cyl for 302 back in 72 and kept the original radiator, driving under all kinds of loads and conditions, never had a heating problem. I my case, considered going with a larger replacement was problematic because the original radiator mounts from inside; that's to say, it slids inside the radiator support frame. Imagine the 66 rad support is considerably different, may just be a matter of finding a radiator that has a rear flange where the radiator setting inside the support? It will be interesting to trac this thread and see what other members did, or what you end up doing?
