I own a 87 350 four door with a stock windsor...where do I begin I would be happy with 400 to 500 horse range when done. Over the next few years I want ot do this a little at a time but I'm not sure what to start with, heads, intake, cam, headers, etc, etc. The truck is my toy and I don't have a huge budget but want a good "wheelin" truck. Any help out there?

Stroker, GT40 heads, cam, long tube headers; converting to a MAF setup or a Mustang ECU for use with a Tweecer or Quarterhorse tuner is going allow you to tune for the changes you make to the motor.

Is it an auto or manual? If it's an auto, you'll probably want to stick with gearing no higher than 4.10 to keep the RPMs reasonable on the road. If it's a ZF5, then regear the axles to 4.54 for acceleration and better performance offroad.

A crew cab long box (I'm assuming since I don't think short beds were available until 96) isn't going to be spectacular for offroading. It's a long wheelbase with a lot of weight far forward. If you're talking hunting/farm type offroad, a set of mud tires will be all you really need since you can fit 35" tires with almost no modifications necessary.

It's an auto with 4.10s long box. I live in Mt lots and lots of logging roads I use it for huntin and playing. Once i get the engine and drivetrain where i want it, (that could be a couple a years) I may take the box off chop the frame and slam the rear axle right behind the cab... but that's a ways down the road. what do you think if I do the headers and exhaust, stealth intake and rebuild my old edelbrock and stick an rv cam in it. I think that will be about my budget for the next year. thanks for your input.
