Why did they stop?

From everything I have heard form anyone who know, the 300 was a great motor, so why did Ford replace it with the P.O.S. in my truck, the 4.2?

Why did they stop?

Too difficult to make a 30-year-old cast-iron design meet EPA regs for CAFE & emissions standards. I feel your pain. I had always hoped they would make it distributorless, but the best they ever did was MAF in '96 (the last year).

Why did they stop?

Lets see, it lasts too long, makes better torque than the car motors in trucks now, too easy to fix yourself, and wont fit under that ugly sloped hood.

Why did they stop?

Yup. It wouldn't fit in the new style trucks that came out in 97.

Why did they stop?

how awesome would it be if Ford just enhanced the old 300?

A 300 with even more torque and maybe some ponies too

Why did they stop?

Kinda like the new GM I6 in the Trail Blazer. 270 hp from a little I6 with variable cam timing. They also have very good torque numbers (320 ft-lbs ???) on paper, but are a terd to drive.

Why did they stop?

Its because of all those little sissy boys/girls that think they know what people want! They need MEN designing trucks.

Why did they stop?

yeah, its amazing how the numbers compare to the actual use of the engine... some times it just doesn't seem right.

Especially in those older model cobras....

Why did they stop?

maybe its cuz people dont use trucks like they're supposed to and want more hp and the 300 was slow in respect to the 4.2s or it wouldnt fit they can out last most truck they were put in or its not what ford wanted as a baseline engine cuz its not some fancy mod motor or makes 200hp...ah o well, if ford makes a new inline they'll screw it up and make it a mod with a torque like the 4.2 cheby i6, about 3500 peak...

Why did they stop?

We just need to get a bigger aftermarket parts selection. Then we'll all be happy.

Mabee the will do something like VW and put two I-6's together and make a V-12! Now I would buy a new truck with one of those!

Why did they stop?

V-12, 13 mains, 3mpg, as much torque as you could ever want!

I think that the only major thing that people don't like about the I6 is that its so slow on the road. It really isn't that bad as long as you keep it tuned up though.

The 300 also cost much more to cast and Machine compared to V-8s. The cranks are very costy to manufacture. 7 mains and 6 rod journals compared to 5 mains and 4 rod journals of a V-8. I actually like my 300 for towing more than my 460 but the 460 flyes on the hwy.

Why did they stop?

Ford should come out with a 60 degree V12 in there super duties, I would probably shell out 40 grand for a new truck then, for now I have my 300, oh yeah and the 460
