Overhead Console Temperature

Hi- I have an 05 Excursion Limited diesel. The overhead console went dead...dealer fixed under a warranty I had. Problem is now there is a temperature reading on the console that reads -40 all the time. Took it back to the dealer, and they tell me that the old overhead console did not have a temperature reading as the limited has outside temperature on the HVAC control....so there is no hook up to feed the overhead console. They said the part without the temperature on the console is no longer being made, so my only option is to have the -40 on the reading whenever I'm on the compass function of the console. seems odd that Ford would't accomodate a model that didn't have the temp on the overhead console.

Does anyone know if there is another part, or if there is a way to disable the temperature...so it would be dark?
