As I said, I'm not saying Titan's 1/4" XLHDPE or whatever it is, is not good. My experience is with a lesser material used in the fuel tanks on military HMMWV's, we could never get the sending unit flanges to not leak and they had a poorly placed and designed drain plug that had a tendency to eject over rough terrain, thereby draining your fuel and usually not at a good time or place. Was it a manufacturers defect? Most likely so. We sent a Quality Defiency Report time and again. The ones I experienced in a fleet of 1200 were not optimal.
Once again I'm sure Titan makes a good product and I'm hoping that 1/4" XLHDPE or whatever it is, works fine in the long term, I just choose differently for my own needs.

It never occurred to me to check, but I'm nearly certain there's no drain plug on the tank in my truck, nor did Titan make the tanks you're talking about... By the way, the material used in the Titan tank is actually superior (and thicker) to that used by Ford for my factory tank. I'm getting the special skid plate for it as well, because it's not much more and I find myself off road a lot (FX4 skid can't be re-used).

I never thought about it before, but maybe that's the REAL reason that Government Motors got a bailout. Other than saving the asses of the parasitic unions.
GM never made the military HUMMV, AM General did. GM just redefined it to there likings. But still AM General should have made the tank alot stronger then what it was.

Very true, AM General is the primary on the HMMWV family of vehicles; we tried like heck thru the military systems to get a replacement fuel tank engineered and made available as a Modification Work Order (MWO) where the vehicle is modified routinely or urgently depending on the severityof the faults or safety condition created by the problem. It never came to fruition.
