Hi guys, yesterday I picked up an 02 expy, with A4wd, and self leveling suspension. it has 130k miles. I got it for a good price because of the issue it has. Example- its parked on the street, turn the steering wheel to the left to pull away from the curb, rolls about 5 feet, and then theres this super loud clunk from under the vehicle that shakes the whole truck...feels like the trans is going to fall out, or it skipped/broke a gear tooth..after that it drives perfectly fine. transmission shifts normal and is super smooth shifting. Upshifts and downshifts without any problems on the city streets and highways. Theres no other vibrations, no funny noises, no funny smells..
Since yesterday, ive driven it about 50 miles on the highway, and it was perfect! Driven probably 15 miles in town, and it drives great also, except when pulling away from a curb, and/or backing out of my driveway. Now, It doesent happen all the time, I noticed if I ease on the throttle on take off, it wont happen as offten..
I did a bit of research on the site last night, and read about the GEM and pulling fuse 104. Im going to go do that now and test drive. Any insight would be great, hopefully its something I can fix my self, and not need to take it in to a mechanic...
It turns out its the transfer case that's bad. Took it to a reputable trans shop, they said $1400 to replace it with a remanufactured one... Does any one know if that's the normal going rate for this kinda job??
