2001 Ford Escape

2001 Ford Escape 3.0L Somehow the oxygen sensor wire on the side of the block (next to the firewall)Bank 1 sensor 1 came lose and it laid on top of the exhaust manifold. the 2 white wires out of the 4 got burned all the way through. The 2 white wires dont have any distingushing marks on either one of them. Repairing the wires,(splicing) , does it matter which wire I need to connect back on the sensor and the wiring harness. Is there anyway to tell??

I'm pretty sure the white wires on a pigtail are for the heater element and don't matter. To make sure, you'd need to measure the resistance from white to white through the sensor. You should see some resistance from the element.

Take it from someone that has been there and done that. Go buy a new O2 sensor. It will burn the catalytic converter out if you get the white wires crossed.

Just did a search, found a post in a forum stating that all sensors have different colored wires but most have two white wires but sometimes black are the heater as I stated. They said to verify as they measure 12 ohms.
