Just low beams. I never have driven it at night so did not even know there was a problem
Go buy a couple of cheap, non-halogen, low-beam lamps. See if that solves your problem. Do you recall the wattages on the replacement you installed. The stock ones were probably only in the neighborhood of 35 watts or so.
Both my truck and my 65 Fairlane have relay set-ups. I use a relay and separately fused circuit for each of the low and high beam circuits, avoiding running full current through the headlight switch.
I've got a similar issue and think I need to replace my switch as well. Have you found an easy way to get it in and out?
There is a button on the switch that releases the **** shaft. Its a little tricky to get it to release. After that dismount from dash and its free to change out.If you are young and dont have progresive lens in your glasses its much quicker.
I got back on my headlight problem. The breaker that the book say's is inside the headlight switch is on the firewall. That is where the problem was.I replaced that breaker. Now i can drive at night. It calls for a 12 amp.,but i went with a 15 amp. because of the cost.
My breaker is on the firewall, & is original with green eye terminals molded on red wires
harness is out of 58 truck canadian production.

Yes i still have that merc styleside t-gate f/s $350
59Terry That is probably an original breaker you are replacing. Ford did have a 12 Amp circuit breaker on the firewall, only for the low beam circuit. Its inline between the dimmer switch and #2 head lamps.
Glad to hear you got your lighting problem squared away.
I went ahead and put relays in, just to reduce the load on the switch.
Buzz; I'm not knowing on the mid year change. Mine was above the brake and clutch just under the cowl.
Try following the wires from the dimmer switch, is it possible yours was removed?
Wally, is it shown in any wiring diagrams you have ? Cannot find it in my shop manual, which has only fair, but partial wiring diagrams, or the laminated one I purchased.
