HELP! Coolant leaking 4.6
I am working on a 1997 F-150 with a 4.6. It ran fine till yesterday. It started to leak coolant from the back of the motor were the auto bell housing and motor meet. I thought it was a bad freeze plug so I pulled the trans. But the freeze plugs were fine. It is coming from a hole the size of a freeze plug just above the rear main seal cover plate. It has a plastic cover in it shaped like a freeze plug (I guess a dust or inspection cover) I know that water is not supose to be there or it is an overflow. What would be causing this. I can pour water into the tank and it just pours out the back of the block. Thanks in advance.

No wires going to it. I would just put in a rubber plug but if it is some kind of over flow and something else is wrong I don't want to ruin the engine. It is more like a plastic plug or inspection cover

The only thing I come up is that the service manual mentioned cracks that can appear in the back of the block. These are repaired with a Ford approved Epoxy if the cracks are minor in nature. If you have a larger hole/crack that could be why it's leaking.
