Hey guys.. im removing my front cover off of my 97 7.3 because its leaking oil very bad.. Just wondering where i could find a cheaper vibration damper puller/installer? Stores or websites? I was gonna rent one at my local autozone but they told me they do not carry one.
It doesn't take a special puller. I used the one I got from Harbour Freight a while back. The combination steering wheel/damper puller. You are aware the oil pan has to come off before pulling the front timing cover? and the engine needs to be pulled before the oil pan can be removed?
yeah i have my engine on a stand. I got the damper off and pulled the front cover.. I see a couple of gaskets i need to replace.. Where exactly do i need to put RTV on the cover?
IIRC, some of the early HPOP reservoirs needed a bead of RTV to seal to the top of the timing cover. The o-ring type gasket only went around the oil delivery passage.
So i dont need RTV on the inside of the front cover? There are two o-ring gaskets on each side of the cover for coolant i think.. they look pretty bad but on the passenger side of the engine is where the oil was coming out of the cover.
Mine also has an oring gasket on it. On the timing cover though.. do i put a bead all the way around the outside cover including the oring gaskets or just underneath them and across the top of the cover?
