Question more power

I have a 1979 F-150 with 35" tires on it with a 400 in it with about 86,000 original miles on it. I'm thinking about putting a holley 4160 carb, a Comp Cams 268 High Energy Cam Kit with roller chain lifters and springs, a weiand intake, and ported the heads. I was wondering what kind of horsepower you guys thought this might give me? Or if you have any more suggestions on parts or different brands of the current parts im looking to buy it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

I don't want to guess on the hp but if it was me and I was spending that kinda of money I would put bearings, rings and an oil pump in that motor.

You're plan is similar to what I just done. I was told around 300-350 hp and 400-450 lbs torque. I have 9.5:1 compression and headers though.

I did leave some info out like i plan on putting headers, 2 1/2" dual exhaust, high volume oil pump, push rods, the cam kit comes with lifters springs timing chain etc. I was also looking at maybe getting a 7 quart oil pan. I was wondering if i would be losing big horse power if i left the pistons and crank alone.

The cam and exhaust system are big power adders along with a good carb. Higher compression does make more power but will require higher octane for a small percentage gain.

The reason I put 351C pistons in mine is because I was redoing the entire engine anyway so it was convenient to do the pistons, too.

A 400 with a good carb, cam and exhaust will make respectable power even with 8:1 compression.
