Don't know if anyone has done this. I'm working on my cab now (77 F100 short box sitting on most of an 82 Crown Victoria frame). I've done the rust repairs on the box and doors. I'm thinking of customizing the roof with a visor. Kind of like the '56 Ford F100's had. Just not sure how tough it would be to keep the slope of the roof even. Anybody have any ideas? Think it would look good? Or is this heresy?
OK, I guess visor wasn't the correct term. Eyebrow? On '56 only. 1 of the main differences between '56 and '53-'55.
Dude. Your going to have to post a pic of that one. I've worked on more 53-56 fords then a I care to admit. It's been about 10 years since the last one I worked on but I don't remember an "eyebrow" the 56 just has a more straight up and down windshield and an optional "big" rear glass. Other than some emblem differences i cannot remember many other changes on a 56. Maybe my memory fails me.
Here is what I mean. The roof front of the 56 overhangs the windshield. The 52-54 does not. I know the windshield posts are different but I thought it might look cool if I fabbed the same overhang on my 77. Just wondering if anyone else had done it and looking for opinions.
Ok gotcha. You mean the overhang of the windshield. I think that pic makes it look larger than it really is though.
From what I've seen and worked on myself. Anything can be done in metal with the right tools and skills. If done right something like that on a dent would be subtle enough to make you step back and hmm something's different but I don't know what. Might be cool. Wouldn't know until you tried it though.
co425- Was hoping someone else had done it so I could see what it looked like. I wonder if someone good at Photoshop could do a picture?
IF I do it, a big if, my main worry is how to blend the curve of the roof so it looks natural. My thought was to cut maybe 4-5 inches back from the windshield, move that portion ahead maybe 3", and fill the hole. I don't want to be so far from the curve that warping becomes a major problem.
