Your photo shows a 6 port selector which usually means you have a FI engine? The way this system works is that the dash switch will reverse the polarity of the wires feeding the in-tank pumps depending on which tank is selected. The selector valve also switches the senders to the fuel gauge.
Ctubutis, I know the 'module' fuse has something to do with the throttle kickdown valve on the carb. I ordered an electrical and vacuum diagnostics book for an 87 econoline so hopefully that will shed some light on this circuit.
Klricks yes this is the 6 port valve but my van came with a carbureted 351w with no in-tank fuel pumps. The only fuel pump is a mechanical one on the timing cover.

OK here is the diagram without in-tank pumps.
Should be closer to what you have.
Wow klricks, thanks for your help! I now understand how the switch works and how it switches polarity +/- 12V for the motor to switch between the tanks. Also I now see how the fuel sender is electrically switched at the valve just like Franklin2 said. I wish my wire colors matched- but since your diagram has wire pin locations I think I have enough info to do some diagnostics until my EVTM shows up!
I replaced the fuse and it seems to be switching correctly again. The gage for the front tank works but the rear tank still doesn't work. I'm guessing it's the sender. For posterity: Red/Yellow is +12V for the rear tank, Brown/orange is +12V for the front tank.
We are having a hell of a time figuring out which wires go where as we had to buy a wiring harness adapter will all black wires and we have the green/green/yellow/brown/red which is not even close to all the wiring diagrams we have found. I was excited to see the link to the diagrams in above posts, but they are no longer valid. Can anyone help with reposting them?

What year truck and what engine do you have? It makes a big difference.
