Will a set of shorty headers off of a 1987-1990 Mustang,fit my 89 F150,with a 302 engine.Will I notice a performance gain over the stock exhaust manifold?Thanks for your info.This is a great forum.I have learned quite a bit since I joined.
The Mustang headers will bolt on to your truck's motor, as the Mustangs and F-series use the same heads w/the 302, however, without modification to your Y-pipe, they won't bolt up on that end. The Mustang headers' collector sits farther back on the vehicle than the collector on the F-series.
The stock Mustang headers have a serious crimp at each cylinder at the flange which made manufacturing easier, but restricts flow. I would follow E4corporal's lead and get a good set of headers that were built for your application.
I've been running a pair of Flow Tech shorties on my '89 Bronco 5.0 for the last six years or so and have been happy with the performance.
As a side note, I took off the stock headers from my '93 Mustang GT for a better performing header.
I also forgot to mention that they are a direct Boldon to your existing Y Pipe. The only trouble you may have is breaking one of the original exhaust bolts that are in your head, if that happens just have it drilled out.
