Well this is going to be a long post to describe my problem, (truck in sig). This morning it was about 17* F out, truck sat all night plugged in. The truck fired right up, no smoke nice and smooth with the usual loud annoying injector. I drove a block away to pickup a friend and move some things to Iowa City with him. (218mi one way). I left the truck idle while we loaded up then headed out. We got to his apt around 2pm and about 16*F out I planned on leaving it run in the loading zone but since there was a cop and being unsure of "idle laws" like Chicago has I shut it off. About 30 min later We Fire it back up and head to go get lunch and well another cop is sitting in the parking lot and I cringe to say it but I shut it off after driving 1/2 mile. 30-45 min later we fire it up again , this time to drop him off before I head back home. I notice some white smoke and figured I did that by running it a short distance. We head out and there is some smoke while accelerating but I figured nothing to worry about since it went away within 1-2 minutes, drop off my friend then head out (left truck running this time) I stopped at Iowa 80 "Worlds largest truckstop). About 40 miles out of Iowa City and shut it off to top off the tank before heading home. Again I notice a little white smoke that has cleared within 150 feet and almost one minute. Now is this normal for the temp 16*F with a windchill of -15? I usually have the truck always plugged in so I never see any smoke. I usually drive the truck between 8-12 miles each night (one way) and I give it plenty of idle time and gentile driving and I have never seen this. I changed the GPCM but Is it possible that a few plugs arent working? I had them "replaced" by a skeptical shop who says he did but I dont believe him. Does this sound like a GP issue mixed with cold winds? Or is it time to start looking into major issues? I have a questionable injector as well that I think is a cheap reman or even a used one since the owner cant figure out the vendor. I had it looked at once by CrewCabTurbo and there was no codes or any issues. This was back in june so If its a worn injector could that be a cause? Or is this something of a fluke thing since I have never seen this before?
I am not certain of the other issues. But a truck that has been run and is warm shouldn't have much of a white smoke issue upon restart after a fillup. This might indicate a time to do the injector O-rings. Also, I am no expert so take my knowledge for what it is. If it isn't severe, I would consider doing the O-rings on the injectors once it warms up a little outside.
I know the injectors were done last may with new o rings. I forgot to add a few things, this is the coldest weather this truck has seen I have a little ranger to absorb some of the short trip driving issues. I re-torqued everuthing and discoverd I had the updated UVCH with the built in clips. Aside from all that it runs fine. I was in the store for about 20 min so I noticed the gauge was not up in the normal range since it was sitting in the -15 winds. Maybe I'm going crazy? Was it just the cold? I know I've seen seen a few idling seni's doing the same thing.
I believe you probably don't have anything to worry about at this stage. It could be that you might need to do the LED mod to the GPR to let you know when the GP's are finished heating the cylinders.
