gelled fuel or loosing prime?????

2003 6.0 ext cab short bed 210,000 miles

before i worked on it, it hasn't ran since last spring. so far i have put batteries in it, oil + filter and fuel filters. i have gotten the truck to start a few times. each time it takes along time to crank till the batteries loose their charge and i have to hook up to a semi for the batteries to crank it over long enough to get it running. when cranking it will fire once then stop and keeping the starter going it will fire again just once. doing this long enough in intervals of 30 sec. or so it will eventually run and once up to temp. everything is good and it starts just fine. i know the glow plugs are gone but it doesn't seem to be a cold start issue. if its colder then 60 deg. out it wont start if its been sitting. i plugged it in one night, started fine in the morning. the morning after that with it plugged in i couldn't get it running. so far it has been through 300 miles since i got it started the 1st time and all new fuel and have used diesel 911 red container. filters were from napa which i know isn't the best thing. any ideas? fuel pump is kind of loud, but if the pump was bad would the engine still run good once it kicks over. fuel bowl fills up fast too. no DTCs.

Tough to diagnose with no OBD gauges like Dash Boss, ScanGauge or Torque.

I will add with the next cold start and you have time try heating up the FICM with a decent hair dryer or heat gun.
