So I joined a few years back but have never really posted.
Anyways I am inheriting my grandpa's 89 f150. A quick story...Grandpa passed 3 years ago, step grandma takes everything and no one hear's from her. We think she sells everything and went back to Guatemala. Fast forward about 2 years later. Im doing some outside work and I see a blue ford coming down the street...ok So I don't really pay attention to it. I happen to look again as it got closer. Blue ford, blue camper shell, same wheels and window visors. God damn it's my grandpas truck. Jump in my car and follow them down the street. Sure enough it's step grandma and her son. Anways turns out they live in my neighborhood weird right? So fast forward to dec 2012 I go to their house and ask them if they want to get rid of the truck. She is going to give it to me and finally honor my grandpa's wishes.
Still getting some paperwork stuff sorted but the truck will be sitting in my garage soon. Truck has 128k on it, it's had maybe 10k miles put on it in the last 5 years. Truck was pretty much immaculate, until my grandpa couldn't take care of it like he used to. So it sat and the AZ sun did it's thing to the paint. Interior was clean but now there is a small rip in the seat and the cloth on the door panels are starting to come off.
My goal is to restore the pick up and build the engine and make a fun street performer/sleeper out of it and I am going to leave the shell on it Maf conversion, HO cam, Heads, Exhaust, maybe a 2/4 drop. So I've come to learn and maybe there is a local that may have done the maf conversion on his truck as that would help alot haha.
Anyways I know it's kind of a read but here are some pictures. From 2009 but it's pretty much the same. Ill get some updated pics later.
I enjoyed reading about you and your grandpa's truck. I also have 89' f150. I really like mine. It is a daily driver. The upholstery is torn in mine. I think we can get new stock material from SAS upholstery. Very expensive, but worth it because it will last another 20 years. Enjoy having fun with your truck.
Kris and Twitback If you ever have any questions about these older Fords in this year range I am willing to help we have 3 of these years (88 F150, 89 F250, 89 F350) so if you have questions just go ahead and ask me. Kris that is a nice old Ford I see the door panel problem alot on all our trucks but my 88 F150. What engine is powering that truck?

Glad you were able to get your grandpa's truck! sounds like grandma wanted to hold onto it for a while... that is understandable, it was part of him she may have wanted to keep for a bit.

Awesome good to know. It has the 5.0 in it with the AOD? The trans has already been rebuilt once in it's life time.

Yes sir. She told me straight up that she kept it for so long is due to sentimental reasons. But giving the truck to me is better since she knows ill take care of it.
I've come from the turbo volvo side and when I found out I was getting the truck i've decided to sell all the volvo stuff to fund the pick up.
Also I looked up that SAS upholstery didn't see anything...unless I am a tard? hahah
302 (5.0L) is a great engine have it in my 88 F150 and my dad's 86 F150. Check out LMC truck they have completed seats. You can usually find seats in junkyards it might be cheaper and sometimes easier to do. I got the seats for our 89 F250 from the local junkyard up here in northern arizona but those are captains (going to captains in it as it is our work truck). You can look at LMC truck for the drop kit too I believe. The exhaust I don't know your style but I do know that I like the flowmaster 40 or 70 series we have that on my dad's 86 F150 and it sounds almost stock. I don't know how the stock exhaust with cat delete on my 88 F150 sounds as I don't have it running yet but that doesn't matter as it looks like you are where you have to pass emissions. My dad was a turbo volvo guy when he was younger but now he enjoys driving his F150 and F250.

I didn't like the velour material LMC listed. I do need to get a new bumper from them because the person that was driving it backed into something. So the bumper has a ding in it. Oh and I am sure this is a common issue....but the reflector on the tailgate is broken. Where does one get that? almost impossible on the junkyards hahaha.
For an exhaust I was thinking about doing long tube headers, 2.5 y pipe, hooker aero chamber and a single 3 in exit. Has anyone in the maricopa county area had success in ripping out all the egr and air pump stuff and still passed the sniffer?
Ok, so I have plate number, vin number, Death cert, my dads birth cert, and my birth cert. Ill be taking all of this to the DMV tomorrow and see what I can do about getting the title in my name.
I would leave all the smog stuff alone... down here they look under the cars and trucks with mirrors and under the hood to see if it's there. with all the paperwork you have i doubt you will have any issues getting a title.
Ah ok I've deleted egr on a car before and haven't had issues as they just checked for the cat. But not sure what issues ill run into with the truck. I eventually want to run some aftermarket heads.
That I don't know yet. I just sent a form off to Washington to get a public disclosure. I'm hoping it's nothing crazy and something simple. Ill be very sad if it's a crazy amount of money and they want it paid back. But word the truck is still at my step grandmas and they back it against the garage with a car in front. Ill tell her tomorrow so I can put it in my shop.
Figured I'd update yall. Title is on it's way from Wa. In my name.
There was some drama between my step granma's son and I...basically he stuck his nose in business that wasn't his.....SO once title gets here I am going with civil standby to collect my truck. WAAYYY too much drama over this hahah. Either way truck hasn't moved in a while since I guess the brakes are failing on it. Luckily I live around the corner so I can just use Ebrake.

If you still need to have emissions equipment, go for long tube headers, dual hi-flow cats, and true dual exhaust straight out the back.
Check on the emissions. I don't know about where you are, but most states have a certain age when a vehicle is considered an "Antique" and no longer needs any inspections or emissions. Sounds like your county requires emissions unlike other counties, but it doesn't matter if the truck's old enough to be registered as an "antique."
The states around me are 20-25 years to be an antique.
