Does anyone have any tricks for making fueling up quicker / easier? I have to feather my truck the entire time I am fueling or else it will come splashing back at me.. Maybe a baffle of some sort in the filler neck? I just put the tank in and put new filler hose, it is that really heavy stuff and doesnt pinch it all so its fuel flow.. I know it is kind of an uphill into the tank because of the frame... I have the second tube on there as well which I believe is just the breather.
I also get fuel leaking out of my cap! I think the seal is junk though so I plan to replace the cap as well.... any tips on getting a good seal? I was doin a bit of wheelin and looked in my rearview and the truck was peeing diesel out the cap! Not good for fuel mileage.
No baffle in the filler neck, the hose does get thinner where it goes between the bed and frame.
Maybe the ol "rotate it up" trick will work? Rotate the gas/diesel nozzle to be pretty much upside down, thats an ol trick that seems to work.
Make sure the filler neck inner tabs that make the cap lock on are not bent, and ck the cap tabs too.
Are you filling up with the tractor trailer bigger nozzle, versus the smaller gas type tip? The ability to put in a larger flow rate than normal might be your problem?

I have tried rotating it alll directions! I never could make it flow very well, I just have to go slow.. I figure a gal or 2 a minute max. Defintely the standard diesel nozzle, not the high flow one.
These tanks were 'slow fill' from the get go. Many customers complained, but there was nothing we could do about it, as it has to do with the curvature of the filler necks.
The problem gets even worse if the vent hose collapses. It was taped to the filler hose originally in three places with electrical tape. Today, the tape has 'gone away' in most cases.
With Evaporative Emission: Filler necks had restrictors inside for two reasons:
1) Non vented fuel cap had 4 prongs, 2 above, 2 below 180 degrees apart. Restrictor designed for lower prongs to twist into.
2) Back then, there were 2 sizes of gas station nozzles, large for leaded, small for unleaded. Lead in gas melted charcoal in Evap/Em cannister.
Consider it one of the pleasures of owning the best damn truck on the road.
Some of the guys have used zip ties to "round out" the tube a bit more with varying degrees of success.
I plan to address it when I take my bed off to reweld it.
is this on your flatbed? i had trouble for awhile after i put the bradford on my 78. after some messing around with my uncle it takes gas fast now. the pump isnt on all the way but i dont have to hang on to the lever any more.
All the way in, my '77 will back up and I have to slow the rate. If I pull the nozzle back a couple inches so te curvature isn't all in the fill pipe, then I fill wide open no probs.
My '77 F150 has no restrictors .... rear mount 19 gal tank. I did replace the rubber connector a few years back.
