I think I know what I'm getting for the truck next. (< click the link)

That solves a couple problems for me.

I like that. I wonder if the top tray still fits over the top?

I don't think the tray works with it. If you look at the picture on the site you can't see the attachment point on the rear console wall, but the front attachment point is there.

I would be curious how much space it takes up. The console in these trucks is huge, but I tend to put a lot of stuff in there

I like this.
They need one about half the size so the tray can be used and secure a few small items.
There is a lot of stuff in mine, too.
The fuel filter kit takes up a bunch of space though.

I like it! Out of all the good ideas and potential modifications this has to be the first one that I must have. I too carry a weapon and this solves several problems including state travel. Outstanding contribution!

Glad you like the idea

kper05 - what fuel filter kit are you referring to? And why is it in the console?

Now all you need is a small shovel and your truck is a bit more prepared for an emergency.

SOG Entrenching Tool

Our fuel filters, FD-4615. I keep a spare with me.
I don't have a tool box so it goes in the console.

LOL, I have one of those in my truck! Haven't needed it with this truck yet but it came in handy 2 years ago when I was all by myself and high centered my F150 out in the Sandhills!

This is why I keep a notepad close - three things I now need; safe, trenching tool and spare filter.

That little trenching tool is going to be about worthless if you're stuck in 4' of snow. I have one like that (cheap one from the military surplus store) and it has never come out of the holster. In the winter I usually carry a little snow shovel. If I am going to the mountains I have a couple snow shovels and a flat blade garden shovel. Even with all those tools it took my friends and I about an hour to dig out of a snow drift. I'm glad we had them, but it took a lot of work!

The entrenching tool would probably get you in less trouble sitting on the back seat instead of a baseball bat.
