Question 3 Questions

I have some questions about a 94 F150 302 Auto (U code trans) LWB 2WD with 59K on the clock. I have three questions I was wondering if anyone had a quick answer to:

(1) Delay wipers only work in the last two "clicks," the fastest delay speeds. The slow delay settings do not work at all, unless I happen to be switching to or from the hi-beams or using the turn signals (sometimes, not always). Is this a wiring problem in the stick or what?

(2) Slow oil leak at the rear main... I can fix this by just dropping the trans, correct? Would seem much easier than pulling the motor

(3) It has a slight ping... transmission shifts HARD but seems to shift into higher gears very early.. when going about 25-30 its in OD or the gear before OD and pings a little under slight acceleration. I added Mid-grade gas this last time and the pinging went "ALMOST" all away.. still can hear it occassionally.. is this more leaning to being over timed or bad EGR? I have yet to check either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Glen Novitsky

1) Probably in the MultiFunction Switch (MFS - the turn signal stalk), and someone mentioned that you can pop the cap off the end of the stalk and disassemble that switch to clean it.

2) Yes

3) Are your tires the same size as the sticker in the door jamb says? If not, you need to calibrate the PSOM. If they are, then you should pull the codes and set the timing according to the sticker in the engine compartment.

Code U is the 4R70W (the truck version of the AOD-E).

Wow,
quick answers, THANKS!! I think the tires and calibration are ok, because driving past one of those city (police) owned "lets see how fast the radar trailer will show" displays are right on with my speedo.... I'll break out the timing light this weekend. Thanks! Glen

as far as that rear main, make sure it is that before you remove the transmission, look up a bit higher and make sure it's not the notorious valve cover gaskets leaking in the back of the motor and making oil run down, making it appear to be a bad rear main.

Looking at all that crap above the passenger side valve cover gasket... I can only hope it's the rear main!! It's not leaking that much, but I'm sure it will increase over time...... Glen
