Sloppy shifter fix... Bushing replacement question
I have been researching the sloppy shifter fix. I checked the two torx bolts under the dash, they were both tight.
I plan to replace the bushings to tighten things up, but I have a couple questions.
1) I have read this can be done one of two ways; either removing the dash and gauge cluster -or- removing four bolts on the steering column which will allow you to lower it enough to replace the bushings. Is this correct? Does this allow enough room for old bushings to be removed and new ones installed?
2) Are the bushings split down one side so the shaft doesnt have to be removed and it can be slipped over and set in place?
3) Is there a part number for the bushings I can reference when calling the dealership?
I appreciate all the help and thanks in advance.
I don't know how you'd get at those bushings without removing the column from the truck. I did it to mine just a couple weeks ago. My shifter was sloppy too. I pulled the column out, it was kind of a pain, but once out it went back in easy as I knew what the heck I was doing. The bushings are slotted, but I have no part number. I just pulled them off, wrapped a little electrical tape around the shaft, and put them back on. It's been fine so far, we'll see how it lasts.
