Self adjusting carburetor

Has anyone ever had a Holley carburetor adjust the idle mixture screws by itself? Well, I have one that was doing this. I would set the idle mix and the engine would run great for a trip or two and then it would have a rough idle. I thought I had a problem with a spark plug and or wire because of there age. So I swapped them and the problem was still there. I finally rechecked the idle mix and the screw was only 3/4 of a turn out from being seated.
I installed a tighter boot around the screw and the problem has vanished for now. I thought I had seen about every problem a carburetor could have until this one.

Self adjusting carburetor

I fixed the problem permanently. I removed the idle mixture screws and the little cork/rubber inserts. I then installed O-rings and lubed the mixture screws and reinstalled them and adjusted them. This engine runs much better than ever before and the mixture screws stay adjusted properly. I am pretty sure that the carburetor essentially had a small vacuum leak around the threads of the mixture screws even with the little inserts. Now since the O-rings create a much better seal They eliminated even the tiniest vacuum leak there.
If this is a commonly undetected problem to Holley carburetors it might be worth a look at your own. Your engine may benefit from this O-ring upgrade. I have heard of someone using a sealer of some sort to seal up and lock the mixture sscrews in place, but I don't recommend it.
Does anyone have any other tips for improving the Holley carburetor idle circuit?
