Radio

Awhile ago there was a thread about origional radios.

It had picturres of 3 or 4 diffrent kinds that came in 70's trucks.

Ive been looking for a AM/FM radio for a 79 but today I came across this radio and Im wondering if it was out of a 79?

If anyone knows or can find that thread Id appreciate the link.

It could have. That digital AM radio was an option available to 79's. You should be able to pull up the thread using the search function.

I have never seen one of those, except in photos. I'd love to come across one. Must have been a very rare option.

Look on the radio chassis for an ID number (similar to this: D8TA-AA or D8TA-18806-AA), post what it is.

If the number begins with a D = D8TZ-18806-A .. AM/Digitial Clock Radio ~ 1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco.

If the number begins with an E = It's for a 1980 or later, will not fit.
------------------------------------------------------------------
1976/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco: AM monaural / AM/FM monaural / AM/FM Multiplex Stereo.

No other year, no other vehicle radio will fit in your 1979's dash properly / FoMoCo did not offer a radio that included an 8 Track or Cassette for F100/350's until 1980.

This generation of digital radio came in AM only; no AM/FM model was offered.

If you look around on eBay, you can find plenty of aftermarket shaft-mount AM/FM/cassette decks. Or just upgrade to a modern-style head unit. Assuming you're wanting to use an FM radio to pick up your Sirius radio using an FM transmitter, don't expect great quality and frequency locking from a 40-year old factory Ford AM/FM radio. Pick up a modern head unit and run a line input. You can mount a modern DIN-style head unit with some modification, or spend some extra money on a vintage-style shaft mount deck with a line input (the kind sold through LMC).

What do you mean "funny numbers?" Those are kilometers per hour, another unit of measure. It's obviously a non-US speedo. Many countries use km/h.

The low fuel economy light was a single-year option (in the US, anyway). It ran to a vacuum sensor.

That's interesting. They just glued a piece of paper over the original speedo to sell in Canada. If you look closely you can still see the imprint of the original mph number through the paper. LOL Talk about saving production costs!

The low fuel economy light was '75 only. My dad had a Supercab with that stupid light in the cluster. Like a 460 is going to get high fuel economy...
