no its the clutch, the clutch is self adjusting which means the presure plate has non-consistent clamp load. The way around it is to get a kevlar clutch with holes which increase the load/sqinch.

My understanding is the 5 speed transmssions are identical on the F150's and the light duty f250s. The exception is the clutch. Apparently, the F150's owners like easy to apply clutches. This allows less gripe. I had a 2000 F150 V6, 5sp, and 3.55 gears. I could pull 5500 thru the sierra nevada's fairly easily. However, I always has to smoke the clutch pulling a 2000 pound boat out off the water.
