Missing temp sender wire
The truck originally was an EFI I6 300 and the PO put a 351w roller motor in it but converted it to carb and took out all emission stuff and its been a wiring nightmare because I'm finding he did a bunch of stuff wrong.
When I bought the truck, the temp gauge didn't work. No big deal, usually. He had the ECT (which he didn't need because of the carb) in the temp sender port. I removed it and put a new temp sender. He cut the R/Wh wire somewhere and I don't know where.
I know it goes straight from the gauge cluster connector to the sender, but I am unsure of its path behind the dash or where it comes out off the firewall.
My Haynes manual shows a 14 pin instrument cluster connector with the R/Wh temp sender wire coming from the #8 pin. I have a 18 pin connector and the only R/Wh wire is in the #6 pin.
Can anybody help me with some ideas on how or where to locate this stupid wire?
On my 1981 (with DS2 ignition with a V8), those wires are bundled in a harness with wires connecting to the coil and distributor, they connect to the main harness over by the ignition module on the driver's side wheel covering.
You should have a cluster of wires coming through the firewall over by the steering column and brake booster, look in there.
From there, they run straight to the dash (along with about 1,000 other wires, all harnessed together).
