I want to increase the wheels and tire size on my occasional use 1998 ranger. OEM is 225-70-14 which are very hard to find. My objective is a taller all season tire. Any suggestions on best options?
Maybe move up to a 15" or 16" rim. 225/70r15s and 225/70r16s can be found. That way, it shouldn't mess with the speedometer (assuming they'll fit your truck, that is.)
Or, move up to a larger rim and larger tire. My '04 uses 245/75r16s (OEM size.)
I don't think you're going to find very many 14" tires for a small/midsize truck.
Plus, I'm sure someone on here can better advise which year Ranger rims will interchange with yours.
I have done this. I had little wuss 14's and I found a set of newer ranger 15" wheels with bigger tires. The tires are a bit big but they look a hell of alot better. I did have to buy a set of hub centrics because the wheel centers where a bit bigger than my hubs. Found a place on ebay for that, around $20. What I found is rangers haven't change much over the years and alot of Ford products used the same bolt pattern as them. here is my before and after pics http://s1263.beta.photobucket.com/us...65462596809283
I see you're in Tn. I've got a set of 15" stock wheels off an '04 Edge. They're argent coloured, but could be plastidipped, repainted, etc. They're free, with caps and lug nuts to whoever wants them. I can even deliver them on a weekend to anyone between exit 202, and Detroit, on I 75 in Michigan.
If you choose to experience winter at it's finest, we could hook up.
