I just pulled my motor to get new cam bearings and bore it 30 over. I have it back in now and don't know where the hose on top of the front axle goes to. I have a 1979 F150 4x4. It has a connector that goes through the engine mount. It's probably about 2 feet long.
Originally posted by LesPaul I have one of these "dangling" hoses on my rear. Is it also a vent hose? And should I just strap it to the rear?
Yes, that's a vent hose too. Does it come off the axle tube where the brake lines meet?
If you do any off-roading or a hit a lot of water, you'll want those hoses up high. If not, up to the frame and looped down will be fine.
There's one for the t-case as well if you have a 4x4. As the difs and case get hot & cold, they "breathe" through these hoses. If they're clogged, the pressure from the heat will force the lube out of the seals. If they're too low or missing all together, the case/dif will suck water into through them if you get deep enough.
Mine was too low and sucked a ton of muddy water into the rear dif. Now they all come into the cab above the steering column.
