MAP sensor failure

1989 F250 with 351W, automatic transmission. Three months ago I replaced a bad MAP sensor and passed the California smog test with no problem. For the past month or so, the truck has occasionally pinged when in cruise mode at freeway speed and then started to develop a very high idle once warmed up. Finally set a code 22 indicating MAP sensor problem. I had no way to test the frequency output of the sensor at different vacuum levels but disconnecting the electrical connection or vacuum hose to the MAP while it was running made almost no difference at all. Swapped in a different MAP from a friend's vehicle and the idle straightened right out and disconnecting the electrical connection caused a drastic decrease in RPM (as expected). My replacement MAP was a FoMoCo part. Timing is spot on, fuel pressure is correct. My question is whether there is something I have overlooked that could be causing the MAP sensor to go bad so quickly or did I maybe just get a bad replacement part?

Sometimes it happens, if you have the reciept still, I'd be bringing it back and demanding a replacement free of charge, or do the ole switchero.
