Well tonight I was sitting behind one of my local Kwik Trips and my buddy slid into my front bumper. These old Fords can take the hit. He was only going about 10 mph when he hit the break so it couldn't have done much.
My truck is a 1991 f150 2wd
Well the problem is:
I have always had play in the wheel but now the play has increased by about half a turn when I take a left but none when I turn right.
I also have a weird vibration when I turn left. It feels like something is moving over something but I cannot figure it out.
All he did was hit the bumper but I figure his bumper ht something underneath the truck.
i would jack the front of the truck up and move each tire like they would be turning and look for play sounds like it may have stressed one of your tie rod ends. and with the truck being old wouldnt surprise me if there both bad along with pitman and idler arms
wouldnt be a bad idea to replace all the sterring components at this point last thing you want to happen is for one to snap and they will if they are neglected long enough
Pitman arm is not a wear item and these trucks don't have an idler arm.
Have someone rock the steering wheel while you inspect the tie rods, rag joint, etc., or take it to a decent shopthat is good with alignments and have them inspect it. Most don't charge to give an estimate.
So this morning I toke it for a drive, I realized my powers steering pump sounded like a duck was caught in it. Fords usually whine a little but this was just painful to listen to. I checked the fluid, and sure enough it was really low. I filled it back up to correct levels and the play was fixed, it got its usable whine back and everything is back to normal.
I got the problem why it was low traced back to the resivor. It has a small leak and I have been neglecting my truck since the brake lights stopped working.
