New to this place. Please help me . I got my wife a 1979 ford f150 4x4 and was told it could be a highboy. I've tried to do the vin code but it will only tell me the front half. the code is a follows (f14hneh1246) . any information will be very helpful. Thanks..
Nope sorry, not a highboy. Its an F150, but no such beast. Highhboys were made from 67-77 in f250's and had divorced transfercases. Just got an F150 that sits tall. Cant complain about that!
This post is better served on the message boards but here it is.
According to the VIN #

F14 =F150 -4x4
H =351M engine
N= Built at Norfolk Va
EH1246 = Consecutive build code Possibly Mar 1979

It looks to me like the Door has been replaced and the rating plate wasn't removed.
They stopped making "Highboys" in 1977
Hey thanks guys. Ijust found out that the door was replaced. But I do have one question remaining. The front axle is a solid axle with one p/s gear box and two p/s assisted rams. and the wierd thing is there are factory holes in the dash in the shape of a d with snow plow stickers on them? Did ford make a speacial truck for just this?
Yours sounds like an emissions exempt '78 I had up to a few years ago, it had a 400, 4.10s, double rams a detroit locker in rear and a posi unit up front, sat up TALL from the factory.
I wish my ex had never talked me into selling it. It was an original Texas Truck, had the big gas filler hole and a sticker on the valve cover that said emission exempt.
I have never seen the power assisted ram steering on the F150's, That doesnt mean they didn't use it, I just never saw it. The only trucks I have seen with that on it have been highboys
Does your truck have leaf springs or coils on the front? Is the t-case bolted to the trans or is it set back and coupled to the trans with a driveshaft?
Maybe a previous owner swapped an F150 body on a highboy frame. Can you post a pic?
