Well I've gone and done it and finally bought a 94 Bronco and boy did the salesman get me, I thought I got a great deal but only to find out the tranny is more than likely going south from the posts that I have read here. when I start out in the morning for work everything is fine but as soon as the tranny gets warmed up the shuddering starts 1st and second seem to be fine but once it hits 3rd put the padding under your butt because it feels like the drive shaft is coming through the floor! Overdrive is the same thing. If I feather the throttle, so the speed increase is only slight, the vibration is not noticeable. My question is this: The information I am getting from various posts on this site seem to lean towards the torque converter being the problem. If this is the case, would a replacement torque converter take care of the problem? Or should I also assume there are more problems in the tranny? Since the tranny will be out in order to replace the torque converter if this is the problem, I do not have an aversion to tearing into the transmission, as with my mechanical ability and the necessary manuals available to me, I feel I can do this. Any thoughts on the way I am looking at this? (IE, torque converter)...or other possible problems would be appreciated. I will have to go to other threads to pose questions concerning other problems with this Bronco. Good thing I love this "tinkering" on an older vehicle!
The converter is the problem, but the cause is within the transmission. A reprogramming kit is necessary to fix the root of the problem. This requires tearing into the transmission. You can put a new converter in it and nothing else and it will fix the problem immediately for the most part, but it will re-occur.
