Now that the Hummer H2 is out and costs around $45,000, I've been seeing a lot of them in the Washington DC area. During our last big snowfall that shut the city down for four days, I was out and about in my Explorer, enjoying an almost empty city. I saw lots of other Explorers, Expeditions, various AWD cars, and one giant yellow H2. It looked like he was having a lot of fun.
In fact, I just spent about 30 minutes at the Hummer website, drooling over the H2 and the TV commercials that are fun to watch.
Now if only Ford would make an H2-type vehicle ...
Them H2's are horrible. Worse thing since the Chevy Avalance....
Thats just my .02 cents...That damn thing is a tank on 4 wheels and boy I hate to pay for the gas for that thing...Bet it only gets about 11 miles to a gallon...
Give me a 79 F-150 4x4 anyday over a new H2...
The first Hummer was alot better on offroad

I wouldnt mind a Hummer. You can keep the H2, I want the first generation. I mean....if Im going to pay all that money for something like that, I fully intend to ford rivers and hit up the mud. You can keep your fancy leather, televisions, and various accessories. I knew a guy who had one of the first ones. He works for one of the surrounding towns fire dept. Ive seen him take that thing through some nasty swamps (yes, he was actually on duty...saving a horse in a swamp). One day on my way home from work, I drove past their town barn. They had a 50 foot pile of sand out back. Guess what was parked on top of it .

Yes, the first Hummer is better for offroad, but I will probably never be able to afford an H1. An H2, used, maybe.
He had a classic car (I dont know what it was) that he traded for it. Put it this way, he got money back after the trade... I think his family has money. He works part time for the FD.
I like the H 1 and H 2 . It's nice to see vehicle that was designed to BE an ugly beast..They should be offered in uglier colors though.
After all, they are a derivative of military design, and it is the only thing ,being manufactured today, that is in any way different.
But I still prefer pre 1982 stuff. No cumputers !!!
There is a Ford equivalent of the Hummer H-2. It's made by Avanti Motor Corporation and it's called the Studebaker XUV. The powertrain can either be the Triton V-10 or 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel. The address is www.avantimotors.com.
In fact, GM is suing Avanti over this truck because they call it infringement and plagiarism of the Hummer H-2.
When I worked for an electric utility in eastern KY in the late 1990s, a salesman dropped off an H1 for us to try. He told our transmission line crew supervisor that "it couldn't be broken". A little background: the "normal" vehicle for that crew is a 1 ton 4x4. They often pull them up to the work site using a dozer. No lie. Hook it up and drag it to the top of the mountain. Well, the H1 did not do so well. By the time the salesman came to get it, it had to be winched onto a flatbed and hauled away. Those independent axles (probably the CV joints) were quite easy to pop in the eastern KY terrain. So you can keep the H1 and H2, I will take a heavy, solid front end, 4x4 truck any day. Now if I could just afford one of those
Yeah, I have seen many videos on the Internet of people with Jeeps and Broncos pulling H1s out of mud holes. The Hummer is not all it's cracked up to be off-road. Too wide, too long, and too heavy. Not to mention it's GM. So you won't catch me wasting my money on one.
