Just a note.....muscle cars of the 60's were typically rated in Gross horsepower. From ~'72 on they went to Net hp. Then in 2005 manufacturers started going to SAE certified hp, which is basically net hp, but requires third party approval.
You can't directly compare 60's muscle car horsepower numbers to today's horsepower numbers. Most cars back then were overrated in horsepower compared to today's numbers.
For example, the 426 street Hemi was rated by Chrysler at 425hp gross. When tested to gross HP standards, they actually put out around 435hp on average. However, when tested to modern net HP standards they typically put out around 370hp net (which Chrysler rated at 350hp net).
By comparison, the 3.5L Ecoboost is rated at 365hp net, while the 5.0L is rated at 360hp net in the F150. Not too far off of that 426 Hemi, which I think is pretty amazing. Especially considering the fuel economy these new engines get vs just about anything from back then.
For the record I will also throw out there all horsepower and torque number will vary between dyno's and anyone that has had them done knows all the variables that come into play. You could dyno the same car on back to back days even on the same dyno and get different numbers. (Not to mention is the shop calibrating the dyno regularly)
Yes in fact it is. The Ecoboost is a thousand more than the 5.0.
Sorry Tim, Had to clear that little bit up; my bad.
Ahhhhh...I got ya'... Anyway, back on topic...All of the trucks are nicer than the previous 4.6, 5.4 offerings. I'm amazed at the HP/MPG ratings. My 69 GTO dyno'd at 402rwhp after getting a new cam and some other goodies, and did a modest 5.45 second 0-60...while getting 8mpg if the wind was to my back. Stock it was still in the 6-second range, and still got 8mpg. With some good tires, ALL of the muscle cars are still below 7 second 0-60 which was brought up. Anyway, I bet if one digs deeper, they will find torque curve ratings all over the dyno map from different places, and I'd (facetiously) bet that K&N has one that shows the 5.0 beating the 6.2 with just a drop in filter...lol I don't believe magazines. I wonder which engine is really the top seller. Anyone know?
Last I heard Ecoboost was top selling engine for F150, and the V6 engines outsold all V8 engines put together.
I was watching an episode of Horsepower TV today they said as they were installing a new CAI and a program from Bully Dog that the EB makes up 50% of all F-150 sales.
The program and CAI significantly improved HP/TQ. Gearz also did a small snippet and added a CAI and a program from Superchips and showed similar results.

Cool...was just wondering. I would have bought one of those if I'd needed to tow anything anymore. I sold my 09 6.4 F250 in September because I didn't have the need anymore. That thing towed real good.

The program alone makes a huge difference, I've got the SCT tuner for mine and just put it back to stock this week to try to squeeze a few more mpg out of it since I've been driving long trips up north but after driving it with the tune it feels like I lost a few cylinders. I'm thinking it's about time to say screw the couple mpg and put it back in there.

I just put a Livernois tuner and offroad downpipe on mine. The truck is now an absolute beast but it gets even better MPGs than before IF I keep my foot out of it. That's easier said than done.

Like it wasn't a beast in stock form!!! Any estimations on HP/TQ increase? MPG increase when behaving?

Don't worry about the mpg increase when behaving...it's not going to happen. Not sure about Livernois but with the SCT tuner the increase was significant, they claim 50 hp and 108 ft lbs of torque...my butt dyno says they are right. It will leave a stock Eco like it's a Hyndai Sonata The SCT did make about a 1 mpg gain when I behaved but with that much power on tap I can't resist.
