i have an 86 150 and it will not start. it will turn over fine but will not fire. I have replaced the coil , ingtion module, dist cap, rotor button. and i am now at a loss of what it could be.it was running fine changed the oil backed down off the ramps and it dies to not start again. any help would be greatly appreicated. thanks in advance
Could be several things. Does your truck have a carb or is it fuel injected? I know that you replaced many things in the ignition system, but did you verify that you have spark?
you need to replace your TFI module. It is located on the distributor so you will need to take it out. Get the special tool your local parts store will have that goes with this proceedure.
1. remove the cap leaving all wires attached. Unhook the wiring harness from the TFI module.
2. mark the rotor position on the cap.
3 remove the bolt holding the distributor in place and pull the distributor straight out.
4 Use the tool to remove the 2 bolts holding the tfi inplace.
5 remove the tfi by wiggling it gently making sure not to brake it.
6 use the silica gell on the 3 connectors of the new tfi before replacing the old one. be sure to clean all dirt from the distributor to ensure a good fit.
replace the TFI and tighten. 2 bolts
7 replace the distributor in proper timing position by being sure marks are aligned. Do not try to move or turn over engine while distributor is out or you'll screw the timing.
8 reconnect the wireing harness and cap.
with the tool and TFI module it was $67.00 and about 15 minutes for this entire operation.
ok here is yhe latest info i have on this thing. there is a spark but it is very weak. and when you say the TFI module are you talking about the ingtion module that is on the side of the dist. if so it has been replaced and double checked to see if it was good and working right.
