I need to wire a connection from the batteries to the rear of my truck so I can pllug my dump trailer in when I need to dump. I am geting tires of messing with the batteries on the dumo trailer. I had to get someone to pull up next to me so I could run jumper cables from his truck just so I could dump today.
So what gauge is necessary also would I need to put a fuze in it? if so what amp?
how could i wire it with a relay and a switch so it wouldnt be on all the time?
U would need a contact relay solenoid like a starter solenoid that is rated for continuous duty to supply the amps that a dump trailer would need. A lot of times they can be found on warn winches. I wish i had one handy and I could tell u a part number.
If u get one, all you do is hook up the two large wires on each side like on the starter solenoid, and small wire on the small terminal to engage it. Make sure u fuse the large wire running off the battery in case it rubs under the truck.
We really need to know what amperage rating the motor is that you are running. Then we can determine what gauge of wire and what type of relay you need. The rating of the motor should be written on the motor somewhere. A name plate stuck to it or riveted to it. Let us know how many amps the motor is rated.... Kinda important. Then we can give you a fuse rating and correct wire size. The fuse will be rated for the size of wire you are using to protect the wire. It is not rated to protect the motor. Just so you understand how the process works. Get that data.
