So are you going to check the codes like Mike suggested this weekend?
Or are you just going to pull them and send them out to Jim to see what they are?
Im surprised when you purchased the truck that the PO didnt mention bigger injectors or that you didnt ASK about bigger injectors. That is usually a huge selling point that people like to mention... or a bragging point.
Either way im surprised it wasnt mentioned when the truck became yours.
I don't know Alex, some people don't like to mention mods because then people think it been riden hard, pulled hard and driven fast and they don't want it.

Im like that. I wont buy a rig that has been molested, especially if it has internal motor/tranny work. Heck i wont even buy a rig with a lift on it. I always shake my head when I find a rig on craigslist and the pictures of it are out wheeling.
That may be so. The truck market is so weird you have so many different ways of selling a truck. lol
It only matters who you're selling to. Whether they think a stock 'unmangled' truck is worth more in a clean untouched condition. Or if they think a truck that has had all the necessary power modifications is better.
Its just most people I have found think the more money that has been thrown into the truck makes it worth more.
So many guys are like "oh this truck is worth 12k easy" im like "not to me it aint...my friend just bought a 01 CCLB 4x4 Lariat leather/heated seats with 200k on it for 8900 bucks! so it pains me to purchase a truck 4 years older for more"
Yeah I just bought my wife a 04 Eddie Bauer Expedition with 69k on it. The best selling feature it had..... completely stock! We looked at quite a few SUV's and I would walk away as soon a I saw even an aftermarket radio/CD player in it.
However, I am ok with me doing "necessary" mods because I know what has been done, how good of a job, and how I drive/ride it.
Hey guys just got an email back from Jim at rosewood, here is what he said.
The only way to know 100% for sure what injectors they are would be to take them apart and investigate.
If they happen to be Stage-2 and you are running Stage-1 tunes then that could explain the excessive smoke.
You want tuning to match your exact set-up as best as you can.
The chip you got from PHP most likely will have Stage-1 tunes if you told them it was a stock '97. That's what we've been doing for years anyway. The most hp increase you would see with stock injectors is about 50 - 60 hp more, so adding any higher tunes on a chip for stock injectors means those higher settings are for modified injectors.
As for changing your tunes, you will need to contact PHP to make those adjustments. I do not have access to their tunes or chips anymore.
The tunes you are requesting are unnecessary IMO. There would be no difference between 65 econo for Stage-1 or Stock injectors. And as I mentioned, the 100 hp is only for Stage-1's anyway. If you do have Stage-1's, then the only change I would make would be to add Bill's 140 Xtreme tune. I drove my '97 in that tune exclusively. Towed, freeway cruise, it was a great all-around everything tune. I loved it when I had that truck.

I didnt ask because this truck was completely stock when i bought it, so i figured there wouldnt be any point in asking such questions. and i mean it still had the original Cat, with 3.5 inch in the stock location, there was absolutely no mods done to this truck. As well as he was the second owner so it could have been modded before he owned it he wouldnt know, im still going to look through the receipt and see i i can find anything to prove it.
Just think, in the time it took you to email Jim and then post up on here you could have taken the valve cover off.... and you would have known what was under there...not sure why you haven't done this yet. If they are not 120cc injectors and are aftermarket injectors the only thing you can do is pull them and have them looked at...I also will say Jim is a great guy at Rosewood and wouldn't go anywhere else.
I don't know why you would spend money off a guess of what they are on tunes...send them to Jim and see what he says... I'd make sure you get the right tune for the truck and injectors...
Me being me would be worried if someone slapped big injectors in without a pyrometer and drove around, let alone towed heavy...thats just me though. I guess without a chip it wouldn't be such a big deal, however if they had it chipped with incorrect tuning (i know you mentioned they didn't) I guarantee the motor would have been melted down the first towing trip. incorrect tuning is a big part of egts as well as performance.
Hen you installed the chip did you have to remove the little black cover on the back of the PCM ?
When you take the VC off you should have either AA, AO, or AC code injectors. Pray for AC
Why AC Mike? Also, on the front of the HPOP there is a sticker with a little 2 letter code. My buddy's that we are rebuilding said AA and his injectors were AA's. Any correlation between the two or just a coincidence?
